Eateries along E. 185th Street change as often as Cleveland's weather. Not so for Muldoon's Saloon and Eatery, a veteran of 28 years at its 1020 E. 185th Street location.
Offering 75-plus menu items, Muldoon's transcends the usual tavern fare and comfort foods. Check out their outrageous chili, meatloaf and finger lickin' BBQ. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, soups, entree salads, sandwiches and wraps, as well as hearty seafood entrees (swordfish, grouper, whitefish, and the ubiquitous fish and chips), plus pork chops, chicken, and steak.
If you have a hankering for a thick, juicy hamburger like those pre-dating the drive-thru, nine "steak burgers" are featured along with the All-American mini-"sliders". Add hand-cut fries or real hand-battered onion rings and you are in for a guilty pleasure.
"Irish" isn't limited to the Muldoon's name. In addition to the obligatory corned beef, sample Irish Egg Rolls (crispy wontons stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese), Pub Soup (creamy potato and ham with a hint of Irish Harp beer), Warm Raspberry Bread Pudding (with a Jameson Whiskey/Chambord liqueur topping), Bailey's chocolate Mousse, plus Muldoon's own Irish Coffee.
Boasting over 100 bottled beers from around the world, favorites like Guiness, Harp, Bass, Killian's and Smithwick's are on tap, partnered with Great Lakes Brewing Company selections. In addition to "Pizza Nights" (Monday & Tuesday, $7.99), Mondays through Thursdays are "Wing Nights" at 40 cents-a-wing (10 wing minimum).
Customers are in jeans or business suits. Kids to grandparents all find their comfort level at Muldoon's. Although the casual decor includes several TVs usually tuned to sports dujour, the sound is off so you can dine to music and conversation.
Prices range from $2.99 (fries) to $19.99 (full slab of baby back ribs), with most salads and sandwiches in the $5-$7 range. Consider Muldoon's for take-out (216-531-3130), catering or private gatherings in their Shamrock Room.
Although the bar area remains open later, Muldoon's kitchen serves from 11 am - 11 pm Monday thru Thursday and Saturday (until midnight on Friday), and from 1-8 pm Sundays. Be forewarned that March 17 is always wall-to-wall with St. Patrick's Day revelers!
